How do I get started with Merl?
Download Merl on iPhone or iPad from the App Store. Sign in with Apple ID — no email or password needed. Start with 25 mana. Pick an agent and follow the prompts.
What is a "cast"?
A cast is one AI generation — one résumé rewrite, one set of headshots, one video clip, etc. Each cast costs a set number of mana depending on the agent.
Which agents are available?
The crew: Editor (résumés + cover letters) · Echo (writing in your voice) · Shine (photo studio powered by GPT Image 2, Nano Banana 2, Z-Image, and Grok) · Cutter (Create, Face Swap, and Enhance via Grok, Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.0, Kling, and Topaz) · Designer (interior redesign) · Lore (private iMessage Wrapped and local chat-history answers). More specialists in the pipeline.

How do mana work?
Mana is the currency you use to run agents. Text agents (Editor, Echo) are low fixed mana. Lore answer cards are 5 mana, date mini Wrapped pages are 35, one-person wraps are 75, and full iMessage Wrapped is 125. Image agents (Shine, Designer) start cheap and scale by model. Video (Cutter) prices exactly by model, length, audio, and quality. Start with 25 mana, then buy a plan or top up when you want more. Top-up mana never expire.
Do mana expire?
Subscription mana (Day Pass, Weekly, Pro, Creator) resets each billing cycle — unused mana does not roll over. Top-up mana (purchased individually) never expires. Subscription mana is spent first before top-ups.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, find Merl, and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged. You can also tap Manage subscription in the Profile tab inside Merl.
Can I get a refund?
All purchases are handled by Apple. Visit
reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID to request a refund. If the app itself is the problem, email us first — we'll sort it.
How do I restore my purchases after reinstalling?
In the Merl app, go to Profile → Restore purchases. This restores your subscription status and syncs your top-up mana balance from the cloud. Sign in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase.

My headshots don't look like me. What can I do?
Upload clearer, well-lit photos with your face clearly visible. Avoid sunglasses, heavy filters, or photos where your face is partially obscured. The more reference photos you provide, the better Shine's face-identity filter can preserve your features.
The video generation is taking a long time. Is that normal?
Yes — video generation can take 1–3 minutes depending on the model Cutter routes to (Seedance 2.0, Kling, or Veo 3.1). Enable notifications in the Profile tab so we ping you when your video is ready.
Can I use Merl outputs commercially?
Yes — content you generate through Merl is yours, within each underlying model's license. For high-stakes commercial or publishing use, consult a legal professional.
How do I import chat.db for Lore?
In Lore, tap Import chat.db. On your Mac, open Finder, press Command-Shift-G, go to ~/Library/Messages/, copy chat.db, and send that copy to your iPhone with AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or Files. Lore builds a private local index from the copy.

How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → Account → Delete account & data. This removes Merl app data we store for you and clears local data from the device. Apple, RevenueCat, and Supabase authentication records may remain where required for security, legal, fraud-prevention, or subscription handling. Your subscription is managed separately by Apple and will not be cancelled automatically.
Is my data private?
Yes. We don't sell your data or train AI models on your content. Normal scrolls (cast history) live on-device and can sync to your private account when signed in. Lore's imported chat.db, local index, cached Wraps, and local answers stay on your device. See our
